How long has IOK been around? The establishment began in the spring of 1998 as an intensive weekend Islamic studies program with only a handful of teachers and students. In its second year, the Institute expanded its programs to the weekdays and added an after school program that enabled students to maintain their Islamic learning during the week while helping them excel in their regular schooling. Finally in the fall of 2001, the Institute became a full-time entity, offering programs covering both dimensions of education, Islamic as well as standard state-endorsed academia. Now, 13 years since its inception, the Institute has a staff of over 15 teachers instructing students in Quranic, Islamic, Arabic education along with operation of a full time state-endorsed academic program from KG to 10th grade. Over 150 students attend the Institute from Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside and Ventura counties of Southern California.
